Unoffendable at 30,000ft.

A friend enthusiastically recommended the 2nd edition of Unoffendable by Brant Hansen. I finished the book today at 30,000 feet over the North Atlantic on an American Airlines flight,  that was returning my wife Judi and I, from a six day vacation in London. I now understand my friend’s enthusiasm, for the book, I absolutely loved it. I had never thought about the concept of becoming unoffendable. Of course, the author keeps repeating that there are so many benefits from becoming unoffendable, but he also makes it clear that it is not easy to become unoffendable and that it takes lots of practice. Right after I finished the book, I wrote down some notes, from the book, to help me envision:

What it takes to lead an Unoffendable life?

Adopt a life of radical humility!

  • Real humility means to relax and learn to laugh at yourself.

  • Totally accept God’s gift of Grace and Love and pass it on to others.

  • It is always Grace that changes hearts.

Live with an absence of anger!

  • Practice anger control while driving, call it “forgiveness practice.”

  • There is nothing that can be done with anger, that cannot be done better without anger.

Practice constant forgiveness!

  • We simply can’t trust ourselves, in our judgement of others.

  • We must choose ahead of time that we’re just not going to get offended by people.

  • The judging business, is God’s business, and not mine.

  • Act out of love to help correct injustice, not out of anger.

  • Don’t condemn the culture, redeem it.

  • It’s hard to forgive when people don’t deserve it, but if a life of forgiveness is hard, a life of unforgiveness is even harder.

  • We forgive because we didn’t deserve it. We forgive because we have been forgiven.

I have decided I am going to try and lead an Unoffendable life. Prayers for my efforts would be appreciated.

Thanks for having an interest in my blog. You are welcome to read, comment and ask questions. I do have a few requests. I know this is an election year, but I am asking commenters not to make any political comments. I also ask that if a post angers you, to please let yourself calm down before you comment. I very much welcome calm thoughtful disagreement and criticism. If in a post I make a mistake, I will very much appreciate you pointing it out to me. Let’s face it we all make assumptions, and often they contain flaws. Again I appreciate your participation in this blog.
